“In the early days of desktop publishing (1985-1990) I was fascinated by the opportunity initially made available by Adobe Illustrator and by some AutoCad utilities to convert bitmap work and in particular technical photographs into quality line drawings. Vectorization, known by many in the publishing, GIS and graphic design industries, allows a bitmap image, generally derived from a scan or from other digital input acquisition equipment to be converted into a much more manageable, flexible, light and editable vector format.”

“Is there anyone out there who still doubts the real world benefits of developing with Web standards? If so Iíve got some pretty compelling evidence for you. Especially when it comes to the benefits of CSS based design. Iím going to show you some actual numbers that show pretty clearly the Return On Investment (ROI) of going with Web standards. What Iíve done is gone back through my invoices and pulled the numbers for two very similar projects (in terms of scope and deliverable), one done back in 2001 and another done just before the end of 2003. Iím going to show you the differences between these projects in terms of time, effort and dollars as well as talk a little bit about the real world effects of using Web standards. Itís really pretty amazing.”

“This chart displays attributes of different user-installed blog software packages side-by-side for comparison. Only server-installed scripts will be included in this list. (Sorry, no Radio, Blogger, etc.) I created this chart to help figure out what blog tool best suited my needs. Hopefully, it will be useful to the self-hosted blogging community as well.”
