“Colour is increasingly used these days to help convey information. When one in twelve men have some measurable degree of colour vision deficiency, the use of certain colours in certain ways can cause difficulty when navigating web pages or software, and even total illegibility in some cases… This site contains information and design tools. They may not show you exactly what dichromats see, but will help you to understand which colours are easily confused.”

“Simply the best overview of the long now I am aware of. Displays with utmost intelligence 50 centuries of civilization, as revealed in the complex rise and fall of ancient powers. Because it is not as linear as the famous Histomap, it is not as handy for quickly locating a fact in time, but its extra dimensions make this diagram the one I keep returning to to grok the past 5,000 years.”

“First, an anecdote. Several years ago, the Philadelphia Daily News ran a terrific feature about why men’s hairpieces tend to look so dreadful. As in: how come we can put men on the moon and transplant hearts, but Charlton Heston has been walking around for 30 years with what can only be described as a dead possum on his head?”
