“The first-ever StL/IA get-together will take place on November 1 @ 7 p.m. We will be getting a tour of the offices of XPLANE, home of the venerable xBlog. (Bet you wish you lived in St. Louis now, dontcha.) The party will then move across the street for some good ol’ Soulard-style party time at Norton’s. RSVP is required for this meeting only, so XPLANE is not overrun with rabid throngs of IAs. Future meetings will most likely not require RSVPs.” (Here’s a Map.)

“Despite the prevailing wisdom that ‘users don’t read,’ discussions about online typography do get a lot of attention and space — A List Apart alone has run half a dozen articles about presenting text effectively on the web. So if you’ve been paying attention, you probably already know the basics of online typography: legible fonts are good, CSS is essential, and relative font sizing is tricky. There’s another aspect of online typography, however, that’s been almost entirely ignored: well-formed punctuation. Not just grammatically correct (that’s a good first step), but typographically correct punctuation.”

“In his book Art is Work, the graphic designer Milton Glaser states, ‘The act of drawing has nothing to do with being an illustrator. We draw because it enables us to see…. Drawing is the path to observation and attentiveness.’”
