“In Part I of the article we analyzed Edward Tufte’s principles of visualizing information. The second part of the article explores the use of comics as instructional content with specific reference to the work of comics creator and theoretician Scott McCloud. Again, while searching for information on the use of comics in instruction, we did not find many resources on this topic. This short article is an attempt to initiate a discussion on the possibilities and pitfalls of using comics in learning.”

“There are few more obviously functional forms of environmental typography than the signage in a subway or other transit system. A couple of years ago, I found myself riding the subways of New York, London, and Paris, all in the space of the same month. This gave me an unusual opportunity to compare the three systems firsthand, and to judge which was easiest to navigate.”

“I attended a one-day course given by Edward Tufte on Jan 26, 2000. It ran from 9am to 4:30pm. I have kept notes on both the content itself, methods used in delivery, and his suggested reading list. My notes are in brief shorthand, but at least you can get a flavor of what he was covering.”

“Visual architecture is applied to the new media design context and defined as the use of a particular method of building visual information and balancing communication between images and words. Visual architecture is to be distinguished from the way that Occidental languages train our eyes to read from left to right and from other languages as well, like oriental and middle-eastern ones, which train the eye differently.”
