Server vs. Client Authoring

“Where should web authoring be done? When should you use a browser/server-based tool and when a client-based tool? …To understand web authoring by regular people, I think it’s helpful to have a taxonomy that distinguishes among the various aspects of the process. I have broken it down into both the elements of web site creation and the stages in the life cycle of sites. Then, using that taxonomy, I look at how various authoring techniques stack up at each stage.”

An Interactive Art Direction Quiz

“Uncomplicate your life! Take this short quiz to test your art direction and creative thinking skills. You’ll link to a series of screens posing six newspaper art direction challenges. Think about what your visual solution to the story would be; do some sketching and doodling and take your time. Then link to a page that reveals one person or one publication’s solution to this particular challenge.”

Postnet.com wins EPpy for best entertainment site

Congratulations to my former coworkers at postnet.com. Good job! “Postnet.com’s entertainment section was named the best in a newspaper online service at Editor & Publisher’s 5th annual EPpy awards banquet Friday night in New Orleans. The award honors newspaper new media work around the world. The other finalists in that category were the Mercury Center’s Just Go site, based in San Jose, Calif., and the Dallas Morning News’ GuideLive. Postnet.com also was a finalist for the EPpy award for best promotion of a newspaper online service. That award went to the Chicago Tribune’s Metromix.” Note: This link will only be good for one week from the posting date; after that it is sent to the Post’s pay archives.

Those who keep up with the information age may know that it is used for e-mail addresses, the code you write when you send an electronic letter from your computer Thanks modem and telephone. But what is it called, and how did it originate?”
