“Some of our advertisers … say that consultants and agencies recommend banners that mimic operating system interfaces, because these ads increase clickthroughs. So advertisers blindly submit ads that look like dialog boxes or download-progress indicators, aiming to trick people into clicking through to their sites. Know what? In fact, they do work … Know what else? Clickthrough rates mean nothing.”

Translators’ Site du Jour: Language Links Plus

The purpose of this Web site is to share some of the sites I’ve found, and the lessons I’ve learned about searching, with my colleagues involved in translation, as well as others who are fascinated by The Search… The Net is not all work for me; I am also fascinated by really interesting sites that ‘might come in handy’ some day. The result: Translators Site du Jour: Language Links Plus.”

Ars Technica: Arswards ‘99

“…we at Ars Technica monitored the entire year in tech. We tested and tweaked and benchmarked every product we could get our hands on; we scrutinized technology trends, product announcements, corporate mergers, stock prices, controversies… Finally, when the year ended at midnight on December 31, 1999, we retired to the Ars Senatorial Chambers to debate which technologies, products, people, and events deserved to be honored with the tech industry’s most coveted award: the Arsward.”
