“Concern about projects has never been at a higher level. Project management is currently one of the most-cited career positions. Every company and organization has projects. Membership in the 25 year-old Project Management Institute (PMI) has swelled from about 8,000 to 80,000 in just the last ten years, 30,000 in the last year alone. Currently, over 1,000 books on project management are available from PMI. Yet we continue to get projects that are over budget, late, and fail in some significant way to satisfy the customer and the project participants.”

“In a series of 10 experiments, the authors presented 1,100 college students with various pricing scenarios. For example, respondents were asked to consider the past price of a polo shirt and to judge if the current higher price was fair. They also considered the price of a pint of ice cream at a grocery store and one at a convenience store. In other experiments, participants made judgments and assessed price fairness about clothing at a department store and a discount store. They were invited to guess at probable prices, cost of goods sold, other costs, and profits.” (May require membership to read.)

“Advertisers fare much better when they tell an ongoing story with a common theme over a series of e-mail messages… This methodology, which can best be described as ’serial storytelling,’ has existed for thousands of years in other forms of communication for good reason — it works.”

“*In 2000, a CEO earned more in one work day than what an average worker earned in 52 weeks, according to the Economic Policy Institute. This ratio fell in 2001, but remains above historical levels. (The Boston Globe, August 4, 2002); *CEOs of large corporations made 411 times as much as the average factory worker in 2001. (Business Week May 6, 2002); *In the past ten years, average wages increased 36%. For CEOs, it was 340%. (Business Week May 6, 2002).”
